I always start from an original design of the jewel, working each piece by hand, until I reach what I call” the perfection of imperfection “. A lively and vibrant result, which distinguishes the action of man from the product of the machines.

One of my favorite goldsmiths techniques is modeling: from a border with a sharp edge a decoration with flowers or leaves can arise, a technique that recalls the carving of wood on vintage furniture: I grew up in Brianza among cabinet makers, inlayers, decorators, I know these works well, and these tools.

Like the burin, a hardened steel rod that has a very sharp and sharp end; depending on the need for incision, the tip can have an angular shape (more or less acute) or semicircular or ribbed. On the opposite side there is a mushroom-shaped wooden handle.

The small tool is gripped to be an extension of the hand: the thumb must rest towards the cutting part, the rest of the rod firmly enclosed between the remaining fingers and the handle resting on the palm of the closed hand.

The burin engraving technique consists in removing metal, obtaining a living design, where the details are never the same. A very interesting technique that distances itself from modern ones, such as lasers and pantographs, as perfect as they are cold.

The burin engravers in Italy are now very few. For this reason, wearing a hand-engraved jewel does not only mean owning a unique, artistic piece, made with passion, but also preserving the ancient Italian goldsmith tradition.
